Description
This set consists of a vintage postwar O-gauge steam locomotive and matching coal tender manufactured by The Lionel Corporation. The locomotive is a 2-6-4 wheel configuration, finished in matte black with white heat-stamped numbering 2046 on the cab sides. The locomotive is constructed with a die-cast metal body and chassis. A stamped metal plate on the underside of the boiler reads IMPORTANT LUBRICATE AS PER INSTRUCTIONS THE LIONEL CORPORATION, N.Y. MADE IN U.S. OF AMERICA. It features an internal electric motor, smoke unit, E-unit reverse mechanism with top-mounted control lever, and Magnetraction. The accompanying tender features a die-cast metal body marked L I O N E L L I N E S on both sides. The tender is equipped with an internal air-whistle mechanism, die-cast metal trucks, and a rear operating knuckle coupler. Both pieces utilize metal wheels, axles, and side rods.
Condition report:
The locomotive and tender are in good vintage condition showing signs of play wear. There is visible paint loss on high points, handrails, and the edges of the steps. The white lettering remains clear and legible on both units. All mechanical linkages, wheels, and trucks appear to be intact. The motor, smoke unit, and whistle mechanism have not been tested for functional operation. No original boxes or additional accessories are present.
