Description
This US one dollar coin is a Morgan Silver Dollar minted in 1890 at the New Orleans Mint. The obverse features the left-facing profile of Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, surrounded by thirteen stars, the legend E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the date 1888 at the bottom. The reverse depicts a bald eagle with outstretched wings clutching arrows and an olive branch within a laurel wreath, with the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, In God we trust in Gothic script, and the denomination ONE DOLLAR. The O mint mark is located on the reverse above the DO in DOLLAR. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper and features a reeded edge.
Condition report:
The coin is in poor condition with heavy circulation wear and significant environmental damage. The surfaces exhibit extensive pitting and dark gray and brown toning. A prominent dark diagonal streak or scratch is visible across the obverse field and profile. Most high-point details on the hair and eagle feathers have been flattened.
