Description
This hand-carved wooden duck decoy represents a bluebill or scaup drake. The piece is of two-piece construction with a carved head joined to the body. The upper body and tail exhibit a textured, scratch-carved surface. It retains remnants of original or early working paint, featuring a dark head and tail with grayish-white tones on the sides. The right side of the head is fitted with an inset yellow glass eye. The decoy has a flat-bottomed base with a central hole intended for an anchor attachment. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are present.
Overall length: 13.5 inches.
Condition report:
The decoy shows significant age-related field wear. The paint is weathered and thin with substantial areas of loss. The wood surface exhibits pitting, drying, and abrasions, particularly on the bill and tail tip. The left eye is missing, leaving an empty socket.
