Description

A hand-carved and painted wooden northern pike spearing decoy by Oscar Peterson of Cadillac, Michigan. The decoy features a dark reddish-brown body decorated with hand-painted black undulating line patterns and yellow accents on the tail, fins, and gill area. The construction includes four inserted metal fins, two iron wire eyelets for line attachment on the dorsal side, and a flush-mounted lead belly weight. The carving displays a blunt nose and a distinctive V-shaped gill notch characteristic of the maker. The tail is carved as an integral part of the wooden body.

Length: 8.75 inches.

Condition report:

The decoy exhibits wear consistent with its use as a working tool. There is overall paint loss and thinning across the body, particularly on the dorsal surface. The wooden tail has a small chip on the upper edge. The metal fins show minor bending, and the iron wire eyelets display light surface oxidation.
