Lot 79:
Description
This lot features a collection of four decorative canvasback duck decoys comprising various sizes and materials. The largest item is a drake decoy constructed of cast iron. It is finished with a deep red head, black breast and tail, and a pale cream body. The underside is lined with black felt and bears an oval paper label for the Iron Feathers Collection of Elyria, Ohio. The assortment includes two miniature decoys by carver Leonard Burcham of Havre de Grace, Maryland, representing one drake and one hen. These miniatures feature hand-painted stippled details consistent with the regional carving style and both retain rectangular paper maker labels on their undersides. The fourth item is a small hand-painted canvasback hen decoy with brown plumage and stippled wing markings. This smaller hen is mounted on a green felt-lined base with a label identifying it as Made and Handpainted in USA.
Condition report:
The collection is in good decorative condition with visible signs of age and handling. The cast iron drake decoy exhibits minor paint loss and scuffing, particularly on the head and breast. The two miniature decoys by Leonard Burcham show white paint residue or overpaint along the bottom edges of the bodies. All items show light surface wear, minor paint scuffs, and a light accumulation of dust.
