Description
This set includes two bow-back armchairs and two matching bow-back side chairs manufactured by Nichols and Stone Co. of Gardner, Massachusetts. The chairs are constructed from selected Northern hardwoods using traditional Windsor joinery, featuring continuous bentwood crest rails, slender spindles, and shaped seats. The frames, including the turned legs, H-shaped stretchers, and back supports, are finished in black paint, while the hardwood seats feature a natural wood finish. The underside of one chair seat bears a yellow manufacturer label stating MADE OF SELECTED NORTHERN HARDWOODS, NICHOLS and STONE CO., The Home of Windsor Chairs, and GARDNER, MASSACHUSETTS. The label also includes a shield logo with the text Windsor Since 1857 and a handwritten notation in ink reading 16 LB – 0705 – 210.
Condition report:
The chairs show signs of age and regular use. There are visible scuffs, scratches, and paint losses to the black finish, most notably on the legs, stretchers, and armrests. The far-right armchair exhibits significant paint wear on the outer edge of the right arm. The natural wood seats display surface scratches and some dulling of the finish. The joints appear structurally stable.
