Lot 145:
Description
This mid-20th-century nursery rocking chair, known as the Teetertot, was produced by the Delphos Bending Company of Delphos, Ohio. The piece features a distinctive steam-bent wood frame characterized by high arched side rails supported by vertical spindles, creating a protective enclosure. The seat and backrest are constructed from flat plywood panels attached with visible metal screws. A central canvas safety strap is secured to the front horizontal crossbar and the underside of the seat. The item is primarily crafted from light-toned wood, likely maple or birch, with a clear natural finish. The reverse side of the backrest bears a black ink stamp within a rectangular border that reads: DELPHOS BENDING COMPANY DELPHOS, OHIO.
Condition report:
The chair is in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. The wood finish shows surface scuffing and minor scratches throughout, most notably along the rocker runners. The plywood seat exhibits light staining and dust accumulation. The canvas safety strap shows signs of discoloration and soiling, and a loose thread loop is present at its attachment point. A small chip is noted on the tip of one rocker runner.
