Lot 147:
Description
This lot features three vintage fly fishing accessories, including two woven creels and a bent-wood landing net. The creels are constructed from woven split willow or rattan and feature adjustable leather shoulder straps, with one strap including a leather shoulder pad. Both creels are designed with a rectangular top-loading opening on the lid and a leather-and-metal latch closure. The metal components, including the buckles and latch plates, feature embossed floral or clover-like decorative motifs. The landing net is constructed with a steam-bent wood frame and features a cord-wrapped handle terminating in a metal eyelet for attachment. The net itself is made of knotted twine or cord mesh.
Total width of creels (side-by-side): 23 inches
Individual creel width: 11-12 inches
Landing net length: approximately 22-24 inches.
Condition report:
All items show signs of significant field use and age. The woven creels have minor scuffs and occasional small breaks in the wicker. The leather straps and latches are dry, exhibiting surface cracking and heavy wear. Metal hardware shows surface oxidation and patina. The landing net wood frame remains sound with a smooth patina. The cord handle wrapping is heavily soiled and discolored. The netting shows overall staining and minor fraying consistent with age.
