Description
Lehmann-Gross-Bahn (LGB) model 20401 The Big Train steam freight starter set. The G-scale electric train set is constructed primarily from plastic with brass-railed track. The set features a steam locomotive finished in green and black with red wheels and a seated engineer figure in the cab. Rolling stock includes a yellow Chiquita advertising boxcar marked 4033 and a brown open-sided gondola car marked L.G.B. Ow 4021. The set is complete with a circle of brass track sections, an LGB 5003/110 speed controller transformer, a small plastic female pedestrian figure, a multilingual instruction booklet numbered 0024, and a The World of LGB promotional catalog. The locomotive and rolling stock feature the manufacturer logo. The original red cardboard retail packaging is marked Made in W.-Germany by LEHMANN and specifies input of 120 VAC, 50/60 HZ with output of 14 VA total, 21 VDC, 16 VAC. The set is housed in the original molded Styrofoam insert.
Condition report:
The train components appear to be in very good, lightly used condition with clean surfaces and intact decals. The original retail box displays moderate shelf wear, including surface scuffing, softened corners, and small tears near the plastic window cutouts. The Styrofoam insert exhibits minor chipping and typical age-related yellowing. The transformer and wiring are present, though the set has not been tested for functional operation.
