Lot 225:
Description
This original hand-cut and painted paper cutting, known as scherenschnitte, is by artist Sandra Gilpin and executed in the Pennsylvania German folk art tradition. It is presented in a wooden frame featuring a reddish-brown false-grained finish. The verso retains two labels: one identifying the artist and her location in Hanover, Pennsylvania, and another describing the history and technique of scherenschnitte and false-grained frames.
