Description
A collection of commemorative medals and Christmas-themed coins struck by The Franklin Mint. The group includes a 1973 Bicentennial Series solid bronze medal with the obverse inscription LANCASTER PATRIOT and the reverse inscription Red Rose Coin Club LANCASTER, PA. 1973. Several silver-toned Christmas medals are included in original presentation cards, featuring the Madonna and Child pattern dated 1974, the Adoration of the Magi pattern, and the Praying Child pattern. The Madonna and Child medal is attributed to sculptor Clifford Schule and designer Joseph Aita. The Adoration of the Magi medal is attributed to sculptor Vincent Miller and designer Joseph Aita. The Praying Child medal is attributed to sculptor Richard Baldwin and bears the reverse inscription God bless us every one. A loose silver-toned papal medal is present with the obverse legend JOANNES PAULUS II PONT. MAX. and reverse legends CZESTOCHOWA and ORA PRO NOBIS. The Christmas pieces are housed in their original printed cardstock presentation folders.
Condition report:
The medals generally exhibit proof-like finishes with light surface toning and minor contact marks. The loose papal medal shows more significant tarnish and surface wear. The presentation cards show minor edge wear and light foxing.
