Description
This lot features a Master Violet Ray No. 11 high-frequency electrotherapy device manufactured by the Master Electric Co. of Chicago, Illinois. The set is contained within its original black textured carrying case, which opens to a red fabric-lined interior. The kit includes a black internal power unit, a tapered black wand handle, and a long black cloth-covered power cord. Three glass vacuum electrodes are present: a rake-shaped electrode for scalp applications, a mushroom-shaped surface electrode, and a rounded bulb electrode. The interior lid is printed with silver-tone lettering reading MASTER VIOLET RAY NO. 11. The power unit features a red circular label with text including PAT. PEND., Master Electric Co., CHICAGO, and 110. Accompanying the device is a collection of period literature, including a fold-out brochure titled The Ideal Gift: The Master High Frequency (Violet Ray) detailing models 2B, 5B, and 7B. Also included is an illustrated sheet for Electrodes for STAR-Rite Violet Rays from The Fitzgerald Mfg. Co. of Torrington, Conn., and a promotional sheet for the Star-Rite model. One sheet contains a printer mark dated 3-12-25.
Condition report:
The exterior of the carrying case shows moderate shelf wear and scuffing to the edges and metal clasps. The interior red lining is well-preserved with minor impressions from the stored components. All three glass electrodes are intact without visible cracks or chips. The cloth-covered power cord exhibits age-related fraying. The included ephemera shows yellowing, creasing, and minor edge tears consistent with age. This item is an antique electrical device and is sold for display purposes only; it has not been tested for functionality.
