Description
This vintage scientific set features a Macbeth Illuminometer manufactured by the Leeds and Northrup Company. The instrument is designed for photometric measurements and is housed in a portable kit. The main control unit is contained within a black leather-wrapped housing and features a Weston Model 267 DC Milliammeter produced by the Weston Instruments Division of Daystrom, Incorporated. The meter face includes a scale from 0 to 300 milliamperes. The control panel is fitted with two adjustment knobs labeled DIM A and DIM B, along with various terminals and switches. The set includes a long optical illuminometer tube with a viewing eyepiece, a secondary cylindrical attachment, and a circular metal stand base with an adjustable clamp. Additional components include several small replacement parts in their original plastic bags and multiple green Material Identification cards from Leeds and Northrup. Identifying marks on the optical tube include the text MACBETH ILLUMINOMETER, LEEDS and NORTHRUP CO., PHILADELPHIA, and serial number 1812202. The main control panel is marked LEEDS and NORTHRUP COMPANY, NORTH WALES, PA. with serial number 1800575. A circular component base is marked with serial number 1816072. The entire set is contained in a black textured hard-shell carrying case with reinforced metal corner guards, two latches, and a central handle.
Condition report:
The instrument is in vintage condition showing signs of age and use. There is visible dust accumulation and minor surface scuffs on the metal components and the carrying case. The leather wrapping on the control unit shows minor wear at the edges. All major components appear to be present, but the optical clarity has not been verified and the electrical functions have not been tested. The carrying case shows some oxidation to the metal hardware and wear to the reinforced corners.
