Description

This two-piece silver-plated service consists of a teapot and a lidded sugar bowl manufactured by the Pairpoint Manufacturing Company of New Bedford, Massachusetts. Both pieces are constructed from quadruple silver-plated base metal and feature ornate repoussé and chased decoration in the late Victorian style. The bulbous bodies are decorated with large floral blooms, likely sunflowers or chrysanthemums, surrounded by scrolling foliage. A decorative band of grapevine motifs, including clusters of grapes and leaves, adorns the upper rims and the lids. The teapot features a hinged lid, a curved spout with foliate casting at the base, and an ornate handle. The sugar bowl includes a removable lid and twin foliate-inspired handles. Both lids are topped with acorn-style finials. The base of each piece bears a circular stamped mark reading PAIRPOINT MFG CO NEW BEDFORD MASS around the words QUADRUPLE PLATE. A diamond-shaped logo containing a stylized P is located in the center. Both items are stamped with the model number 524, and the teapot includes an additional small numeral 7.Teapot height: 7 inchesSugar bowl height: 5.5 inches.

Condition report:

Both pieces show a significant dark patina and tarnish consistent with age and long-term storage. No major dents, deep scratches, or structural repairs are visible. The silver plating appears largely intact under the tarnish.
