Description
A pair of American stoneware mixing bowls manufactured by the Robinson-Ransbottom Pottery Company of Roseville, Ohio. Each bowl is characterized by a round, deep form with a thick, flared collared rim. The exterior surfaces are decorated with blue spongeware patterning applied over a cream-colored body, while the interiors are finished with a smooth, yellowish-cream glaze. The base of the larger bowl features an incised mark arranged in an arc reading ROBINSON – RANSBOTTOM, U.S.A., ROSEVILLE, OHIO, along with a partial, smudged black backstamp. The smaller bowl displays a clear black backstamp on the base identifying the maker as ROBINSON RANSBOTTOM, Roseville, Ohio, U.S.A., and includes the model number #700, the designation Sm Mixing Bowl, and specifications for 7 inch diameter and 1 1/2 quart capacity.
Large bowl: 9 inches in diameter, 5.25 inches in height
Small bowl: 7 inches in diameter, 4 inches in height.
Condition report:
Both bowls are in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The interior glazes show minor peppering and small dark inclusions, which are characteristic firing artifacts typical of utilitarian stoneware of this period.
