Description

This lot features a large, hand-stitched counted cross-stitch needlework piece on white even-weave fabric. The design is a multi-vignette country-style sampler. The top center features an arched window framing a yellow cottage and trees, with the text home sweet home stitched below. Additional scenes include a full-length primitive doll, a vertical patchwork quilt sampler, an American flag with the word america, and a circular holiday wreath surrounding a white cat labeled beau. The right side depicts a clothesline with baby clothing and a teddy bear in a basket with a holiday garland. The entire composition is accented by a stitched blue ribbon motif. The color palette consists of soft primary and pastel tones. The design reflects the popular American folk-art aesthetic of the late 20th century, specifically resembling patterns by designer Alma Lynne. The piece is housed under a light blue mat with a custom multi-opening cutout that conforms to the shape of the stitched vignettes. It is set within a dark-stained wood-finish frame under glass. Indistinct stitched characters are visible in the lower right corner of the fabric.

Frame: 22 inches wide x 17.5 inches high.

Condition report:

The needlework is well-preserved behind glass with no signs of fading, discoloration, or foxing. The fabric is taut and the stitching appears intact. The frame shows minor scuffing and wear to the finish, primarily along the edges. The matting is clean and shows no evidence of moisture damage or acidity.
