Description

This lot consists of two mismatched chairs dating to the late 19th century. The first is an Aesthetic Movement side chair in the Eastlake style, likely constructed of oak or cherry with a reddish-brown stain. The chair features a rectangular back frame containing turned spindles and a secondary inner rectangular frame, with incised decorative motifs at the corners. It is supported by turned front legs with ring detailing, joined by an H-stretcher with multiple decorative spindles. The seat is fitted with hand-woven cane. The second item is a late Victorian rocking chair featuring an olive green painted finish. The high back includes a pressed crest rail with scroll and shell motifs above a spindle-filled back. The seat consists of an inset plywood panel with an embossed foliate design, fastened with metal upholstery tacks. The chair is mounted on curved rockers with turned stretchers. No manufacturer marks are visible on either piece.

Condition report:

Both pieces show wear consistent with age and use. The Eastlake side chair exhibits moderate surface scuffs, scratches, and finish wear, though the cane seat appears to be in good, intact condition. The green painted rocking chair shows significant paint loss, chipping, and surface abrasions throughout the frame, especially on the rockers and spindles. The embossed seat is intact but shows surface wear and minor edge degradation.
