Lot 203:
Description
A pair of vintage mid-century modern side chairs, style attributed to Heywood Wakefield. These industrial-style chairs were designed for institutional and educational use. Each chair features a contoured seat and backrest constructed from blonde plywood with a natural finish. The components are fastened to a tubular metal frame with visible rivets. A signature design element of these chairs is the integrated wire-style storage rack positioned beneath the seat, intended for holding books. The chairs are supported by four splayed tubular legs terminating in swiveling metal and plastic glides. No manufacturer labels or marks are visible.
Condition report:
The chairs are in used vintage condition. Both examples exhibit wear consistent with age and institutional use, including minor scuffs, scratches, and minor finish loss on the plywood seats and backrests. The metal frames show visible signs of oxidation, surface rust, and pitting, most notably on the lower legs and the under-seat storage racks. Glides show expected wear.
