Description
This hand-carved folk art walking stick, commonly referred to as a wood spirit hiking staff, is fashioned from a single piece of natural wood. The top of the staff is carved with a stylized human face featuring exaggerated features, including an open mouth, a large nose, and prominent ears, with vertical textured lines carved into the neck area. The staff maintains its natural branch-like form throughout the length of the shaft, featuring visible knots and a medium-brown stained and varnished finish. There are no signatures, maker’s marks, or other identifying inscriptions present on the piece.

Condition report:
The walking stick is in good overall condition. There are minor surface scuffs and small areas of finish loss on the nose and mouth of the carved head. The wooden shaft shows natural checking and minor surface abrasions consistent with the material and use.
