Lot 191:
Description
This seven-piece dining set by Broyhill is designed in the Chippendale style and includes an extension dining table along with a matching set of six chairs. The table features a double pedestal base with two octagonal supports, each resting on four splayed and scrolled legs. The tabletop is finished with a shaped, scalloped edge and includes two extension leaves. The set of six chairs consists of two armchairs and four side chairs. The chairs feature ornate ribbon-back pierced splats, carved top rails, and are upholstered in a terracotta-colored velvet fabric. The seating is supported by fluted front legs and flared rear legs, all connected by a central H-shaped stretcher for added stability. The armchairs are finished with scrolled arms on curved supports. While visually consistent with 20th-century designs by makers such as Drexel Heritage or Georgetown Galleries, no maker marks, labels, or brand stamps are visible on the pieces.
Table length with one leaf inserted: Approximately 84 inches.
Condition report:
The set is in good used condition. The mahogany-finished surfaces show minor wear, light surface scratches, and small indentations consistent with age and residential use. The velvet upholstery appears clean and well-maintained, without significant staining or fabric tears. The mechanical expansion slides for the table and the joinery of the chairs appear stable and functional.
