Lot 199:
Description
This pair of color lithographs depicts classic sporting scenes, each featuring a hunting dog with retrieved game. The first print portrays a black and white setter or spaniel holding a mallard duck in its mouth. The second print depicts a liver and white setter or spaniel holding a woodcock or similar upland game bird. The works are rendered in a realistic, 19th-century naturalist style with particular detail given to the texture of the dogs’ coats and the plumage of the game. Both prints are housed in matching dark wood frames featuring an inset beaded border and are professionally mounted with cream-colored mats. No signatures, edition numbers, or publisher marks are visible through the glazing.
Condition report:
The prints appear to be in good overall condition with light, uniform toning to the paper consistent with age. No visible foxing, water damage, or significant creases are apparent. The matching frames and glass are in good condition with only minor surface wear. Reflections in the photographs are due to the glazing and do not represent defects in the artwork.
