Description
This American five-drawer chest of drawers dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. The piece features a serpentine-front profile with vibrant bird’s-eye maple veneers applied to the drawer fronts and the shaped, galleried backsplash. The side panels and top are constructed from a matching hardwood, such as maple or birch. The chest contains five full-width drawers, each fitted with a pair of ornate cast metal bail handles on decorative backplates and a central keyhole with an inset metal escutcheon. The drawers are constructed with dovetail joints. The case is supported by four slightly flared bracket feet.

The chest is in good overall condition with a well-preserved finish. Visible surface wear includes light scratches, minor nicks, and small abrasions consistent with age and residential use. No significant structural damage or major losses to the veneer are visible.
