Lot 238:
Description
This lot consists of two disparate chairs. The first is a mid-century style lounge chair featuring a high back with vertical channel tufting. It is upholstered in a red velvet fabric. The hardwood frame includes curved, open armrests and cabriole front legs that terminate in pad feet, with splayed legs in the rear. The lower edge of the upholstered seat is finished with a border of brass nailhead trim. The second item is a Windsor-style side chair with a traditional spindle back. The back is composed of bamboo-turned spindles flanking a central fiddle-shaped spindle, all topped by a shaped horizontal crest rail. It features a contoured solid wood saddle seat and stands on bamboo-turned legs joined by an H-stretcher. No maker’s marks or labels are visible on either piece.
Condition report:
Both chairs are in good vintage condition. The red velvet upholstery on the armchair appears clean and well-maintained. The wooden frames and legs of both pieces exhibit minor surface scratches, small scuffs, and light finish wear consistent with age and regular residential use.
