Lot 62:
Description
This collection features nine assorted vintage serving utensils, primarily constructed with weighted sterling silver handles as indicated by the accompanying packaging. The group includes several pieces featuring a tapered reeded handle design in the style of Gorham Fairfax, while other pieces showcase ornate floral and scrollwork patterns. The functional ends consist of stainless steel and potentially silver-plated metal.
The collection includes the following:
A carving set comprising a large knife and a two-tine meat fork with matching tapered reeded handles.
A serrated bread knife with a matching tapered handle.
Four cake and pie servers of various shapes and sizes, including a large teardrop-shaped server with a dark blade marked STAINLESS, a flat rectangular server with a golden-toned blade, and two smaller servers with ornate scrollwork handles and dark blades.
A decorative perforated spoon featuring a highly ornate floral handle and a pierced bowl, possibly for sifting or serving berries.
A small three-tine fork with a twisted metal stem and an off-white composite or bone-style handle.
The blades and functional ends show various finishes, with some exhibiting a dark patina or heavy tarnish. The sterling silver handles are of the weighted variety, common in mid-century serving sets. No specific maker marks are clearly legible on the handles, although STAINLESS is incised on several blades.
Large Knife: approx 13 inches
Teardrop Server: approx 11.5 inches
Perforated Spoon: approx 8.5 inches.
Condition report:
The pieces are in used, vintage condition. Significant tarnish, oxidation, and discoloration are present on the functional ends, particularly on the cake servers and the perforated spoon bowl. The sterling silver handles show light surface wear, fine scratches, and minor dings consistent with age and regular use. No monograms are present.
