Description

This group consists of two issues of LIFE magazine and two issues of The Philadelphia Inquirer broadsheet newspaper. The first magazine, dated August 3, 1953, is a large-format softcover periodical featuring Nicole Maurey on the cover with headline reports on Indochina by David Douglas Duncan. The second magazine, dated June 15, 1959, features Americas space travelers, the monkeys Able and Baker, on the cover with related space race headlines. Both magazines are presented in clear protective plastic sleeves and bear original mailing labels addressed to a recipient in Southampton, Pennsylvania. The two newspapers are folded broadsheet editions of The Philadelphia Inquirer from 1991. The issue from January 17, 1991, features the headline WAR IN GULF with a front-page portrait of President George H.W. Bush. The issue from February 28, 1991, carries the headline BUSH HALTS WAR regarding the liberation of Kuwait.

Condition report:

The magazines show age-appropriate edge wear and yellowing of the paper stock, though they remain well-preserved within their protective sleeves. The mailing labels are adhered to the front covers. The newspapers exhibit significant toning and yellowing characteristic of aged newsprint, with expected creases from being folded and minor shelf wear to the edges.
