Description

This collection consists of thirteen drawings by O. P. Perl, executed in pen and ink and graphite on toned cardstock. The works display a consistent illustrative style utilizing fine line work and varied cross-hatching. The subject matter is diverse and includes a natural history study of stilt birds, a large-scale cat face, a horse with a dog, two figures on a raft, a man drinking from a mug, two classical female busts, a floral still life in a vase, and a mother and child. Landscape subjects include a rural farmstead, a pond with trees, and two instructional diagrams showing a cottage and a well. A significant piece in the collection is a profile portrait of the Pre-Raphaelite artist Sir John Everett Millais.

Several cards contain numerical notations centered within the composition, including numbers 9, 10, 20, and 21, suggesting the works may have been part of a formal drawing course or series. The cardstock used is uniform in size and weight.

Several cards bear additional acronyms below the signature, including K.S.M.S. and N.S.M.S.
Inscribed lower left on portrait: Sir John Everett Millais.

Approximate dimensions per card: 4.5 x 6.5 inches.
