Lot 246:
Description
A contemporary folk art quilted textile applique piece by artist Cathy Plumel, dated 2003. The work depicts a whimsical scene of six stylized cats, including tuxedo, calico, and tabby varieties, navigating a birch-bark patterned canoe across a body of water at night. One cat at the bow holds a fishing rod with a line extending toward four colorful fish swimming among green aquatic plants. The background features a deep blue sky with a yellow crescent moon and stars, and a treeline of dark green pines. The piece is constructed with layered fabric segments and decorative topographical quilting stitches that provide texture to the surface. The textile is mounted onto a light-washed board and is signed and dated in ink at the lower right corner Cathy Plumel 2003 c. The work is housed in a square wooden frame that has been hand-painted with a multi-colored geometric zig-zag pattern and green spiral motifs in the corner blocks. The verso is sealed with brown craft paper and fitted with a braided hanging wire.
Frame: 23.75 x 24 inches.
Condition report:

The hand-painted wooden frame exhibits minor shelf wear and light scuffing along the outer edges and corners. The glass is intact and clear. The brown paper dust cover on the reverse has a small puncture and light creasing near the upper hanging point.
