Description
A cast iron fireplace surround featuring high-relief Neoclassical motifs with a polychrome painted finish. The rectangular frame is finished with a matte black ground. The horizontal lintel depicts a central laurel wreath tied with a red ribbon, from which symmetrical laurel branches extend outward. The vertical jambs feature flaming torches, or brands, positioned above crossed laurel boughs also tied with red ribbons. The torch flames are painted red and orange, while the handles and decorative collars are accented in a gold-tone paint. The reverse side of the surround is finished in a gray primer and includes four integral mounting lugs, two on each side. A circular recessed mark containing the number 23 is located at the top center on the reverse.

Condition report:
The item is in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and previous installation. The polychrome paint shows scattered scuffs, scratches, and chips throughout, particularly on the raised edges of the relief and along the outer frame edges. The cast iron remains structurally sound with no visible cracks or repairs. The reverse side shows areas of surface oxidation and minor rust, typical for architectural salvage of this type.
