Lot 56:
Description
A hand-carved and painted wooden sunfish decoy by artist John Jeffrey Barto. The piece is carved in a rounded, disc-like form and finished with a polychrome gradient transitioning from a dark green top to yellow-orange sides and a vibrant red belly. It features two inset bead eyes and a notched tail. A metal wire loop is fixed in the open mouth, to which a dark brown cord is tied; the cord extends across the back and is wrapped multiple times around the tail peduncle. The underside is inscribed in ink with Sunfish J B 99.
Length: 7.5 inches.
Condition report:
The decoy shows minor surface handling wear and small scuffs consistent with age and use. The painted finish remains vibrant and well-preserved. There are no signs of structural repair. Overall good condition.
