Description

This two-part mahogany secretary bookcase Two parts for easy moving and transport is a high-quality Kindel reproduction from the Winterthur Collection, modeled after the Newport, Rhode Island, block-front designs of the Townsend and Goddard families. The upper bookcase section features a swan-neck pediment with carved rosettes and three turned flame finials. Three panels with arched, shell-carved tops form the cabinet face, with the outer panels opening to a three-section interior containing adjustable shelving. The middle slant-front bureau contains three shell-carved panels that open to a fitted interior consisting of ten pigeonholes and six small drawers, four of which are shell-carved. The interior also features a central prospect door with an additional shell carving and fluted pilasters. Two pull-out loper slides support the writing surface when open. The lower chest section features a block-front design with three long drawers following the convex-concave-convex contours. The piece is raised on four carved ogee bracket feet with foliate scroll motifs and finished with cast brass batwing drawer pulls and matching escutcheons. The drawer interior demonstrates clean joinery and mahogany secondary wood.
Height: 92 inches (to the central flame finial)
Height: 86 inches (to the top of the side scrolls).

Minor surface scuffs and light wear are present on the base and feet consistent with age and domestic use. The interiors of the bookcase and desk are clean and free of significant staining. All brass hardware is bright and intact.
