Lot 88:
Description
An American Queen Anne style tavern or side table featuring an oval solid wood top set upon a painted base. The table is constructed with a cherry or maple top showing a natural finish and visible wood grain, mounted to a wooden frame finished in a traditional mustard yellow ochre paint. The base consists of four square tapered legs joined by a deep apron decorated with scalloped cut-outs on all four sides. Construction details include traditional pegged mortise and tenon joinery at the leg-to-apron junctions. The underside reveals an unfinished wooden surface and the top is secured to the frame with screws. No maker’s marks, labels, or signatures are present.
Height: 29.5 inches
Top: 27 inches x 18 inches.
Condition report:
The table exhibits signs of age and domestic use. The wood top shows surface scratches, small indentations, and faint circular stains or discoloration. The painted base features a heavy crackle or alligator texture throughout the finish. There is visible paint loss and scuffing, particularly along the sharp edges of the legs and the bottom of the feet. The structural joinery remains stable.
