Description
A nineteenth-century weight-driven wall regulator clock featuring a carved wooden case, likely walnut or oak, with an architectural crenelated crest. The clock has a rectangular glazed drop-front door that opens via two brass hinges to reveal a white-painted circular dial. The dial is marked with black Roman numeral hour markers, a seconds sub-dial below the twelve o’clock position, and blued steel hands. A single winding arbor is positioned above the six o’clock marker. The movement is mechanical and weight-driven, accompanied by a wood-rod pendulum with a circular brass-faced bob and two cylindrical brass weights. The lower bracket of the case features a shaped edge with incised foliate and linear decorative motifs. The backboard is constructed of two vertical wooden panels with a metal hanging bracket attached at the top center. There are faint, illegible remnants of markings near the center of the dial that cannot be read as a name or brand. Complete with pendulum, key, and heavy brass weight taped inside.
Condition report:
The painted dial exhibits significant localized paint loss and flaking, particularly along the lower outer circumference between the IV and VIII positions, and around the central and winding arbors (photo 3). The wooden case appears structurally sound with minor surface scuffs, abrasions, and dust accumulation consistent with age. A visible vertical separation or seam is present on the backboard (photo 4). The clock is currently in a non-functional state for transport; the pendulum is secured to the backboard with blue adhesive tape, and the two brass weights are detached (photo 2). The functional mechanical condition is untested and unknown.
