Description
This Douglas MacArthur Commemorative Set was produced by the Danbury Mint as a Registered Limited Edition. The set is presented in a dark blue textured bifold folder featuring silver-stamped lettering on the cover. The interior of the set contains a silver-toned commemorative medal and a philatelic First Day Cover. The medal displays a high-relief profile portrait of General Douglas MacArthur, inscribed with his name and the dates 1880-1964. Small markings are visible on the medal surface near the base of the bust.
The ArtCraft First Day Cover envelope is postmarked in Norfolk, Virginia, on January 26, 1971. The printed cachet on the left side of the envelope features a portrait of MacArthur, his five-star general rank insignia, and the quote I Shall Return. The envelope is franked with a matching 6-cent United States postage stamp honoring MacArthur, which bears a First Day of Issue cancellation. The cover is addressed to a private recipient in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. The components are displayed within a transparent protective sleeve inside the folder.
Condition report:
The set is in good condition. The blue folder shows minor shelf wear and light scuffing to the exterior surfaces. The interior medal and First Day Cover appear well-preserved under the protective film, with the envelope showing faint, natural toning consistent with age.
