Description
This aromatic cedar-lined blanket chest was manufactured by the J.B. Van Sciver Co. of Camden, New Jersey. The exterior is constructed from a close-grained hardwood with a warm reddish-brown finish, while the interior is fully lined with aromatic red cedar planks. The chest features a rectangular form with a flat, hinged lid and is supported by a base with a scalloped apron and bracket feet. Hardware includes a dark metal rectangular keyhole escutcheon centered on the front exterior. The interior hardware consists of two brass-tone hinges and a single sliding metal support stay located on the right side. A manufacturer label is affixed to the underside of the lid, bearing the literal transcription: J.B. Van Sciver Co. CAMDEN, N.J.
Condition report:
The chest is in good vintage condition. The exterior wood surface exhibits light scattered scratches, minor abrasions, and small nicks consistent with age and residential use. The finish retains a warm patina throughout. The interior cedar lining is clean and well-preserved. No structural damage or significant repairs are visible.
