Description
A vintage hand-carved and painted wooden fish decoy depicting a rainbow trout. The decoy features a carved wooden body with a slightly open mouth and characteristic folk art styling. The painted surface includes a dark green back, a prominent red lateral stripe, and a light green-to-cream underbelly, all accented with scattered black spots. The eyes are rendered as painted white circles with black pupils. The decoy is equipped with a metal line-tie eyelet on the dorsal surface and multiple applied metal fins, including a dorsal fin, two pectoral fins, and a ventral fin. This type of decoy was traditionally used for ice fishing spearing. There are no visible maker marks, signatures, or labels on the object.

Condition report:
The decoy exhibits significant age-related wear and condition issues. There is heavy paint crazing and alligatoring throughout the entire wooden body. Scuffs, abrasions, and small chips are present on the wooden surface, and there is substantial paint loss on the applied metal fins.
