Description
A Chippendale style side chair manufactured by Niagara Furniture, crafted from solid mahogany. The piece features a high, pierced backsplat intricately carved with C-scrolls, acanthus leaf motifs, and a central tassel element. The serpentine crest rail is carved with foliate decoration and terminates in prominent scrolled ears. The upright stiles are carved with pendant floral swags. The chair contains a drop-in seat upholstered in a multi-colored floral pattern fabric. The shaped front seat rail features a central carved foliate motif. The chair is supported on front cabriole legs with acanthus-carved knees, terminating in ball-and-claw feet. The rear legs are square-sectioned and slightly splayed.
Overall height: 38.5 inches.
Condition report:
The chair is in good overall condition with signs of age and use. There is visible wear and fading to the finish on the crest rail and scrolled ears. Minor nicks, scuffs, and small surface scratches are present on the legs and seat frame. The floral upholstery is a later replacement and appears to be in clean, usable condition.
