Lot 102:
Description
A mid-century mahogany corner chair, also known as a roundabout chair, manufactured by the Statesville Chair Company of Statesville, North Carolina. The piece is constructed of solid mahogany and designed in the Chippendale and Queen Anne revival styles. The chair features a curved crest rail with out-scrolled handholds, supported by three turned uprights and two decorative pierced splats. The square seat is oriented diagonally, supported by four straight legs with slightly chamfered inner edges and reinforced by an X-frame cross-stretcher. The seat is upholstered in a cream-colored fabric with a repeating damask pattern. The underside of the seat retains its original manufacturer’s label, featuring the company name Statesville Chair Co. over a large red letter S, and a standard upholstery law tag identifying the interior padding as a blend of 60 percent cotton felt and 40 percent polyurethane foam.
Condition report:
The chair is in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is scuffing and finish wear present on the top crest rail. Minor nicks and impact marks are visible on the scrolled armrests and the lower sections of the legs. The upholstery exhibits light surface soiling and minor localized staining on the seat top. The wooden frame is structurally sound and stable.
