Description

One Colonial Revival style ladder-back writing arm chair constructed from solid hardwood with a dark finish. The high back features four horizontal slats, each with a scalloped bottom edge, set between two turned posts with rounded finials. The right arm is oversized to serve as a writing surface and includes a hinged drop-leaf extension that increases the workspace. The seat is hand-woven in a wide splint pattern. The base consists of four turned legs connected by double box stretchers. Construction includes visible turned details and traditional joinery. No maker marks, labels, or signatures were found on the piece.

Condition report:

Overall good vintage condition. Visible surface wear and thinning of the stain is present on the writing arm, top rail, and seat frame edges. Minor scuffs and dings are found on the legs and stretchers consistent with age and use. The woven splint seat is intact and structurally sound, with minor surface fraying and slight discoloration. Drop-leaf hinges are functional. Joinery appears secure.
