Description

A hand-forged steel short sword or large dagger originating from Southeast Asia, likely of Philippine or Indonesian origin. The weapon features a straight, double-edged steel blade that tapers to a point and widens toward the hilt. The base of the blade, or ricasso, is embellished with decorative hand-cut notches. The hilt is constructed of dark-stained wood in a curved pistol-grip style and is secured with a blackened metal ferrule at the throat. The accompanying scabbard is of simple two-piece wooden construction, tapered to match the form of the blade.
Total length in scabbard: 12.75 inches
Blade length: 8 inches
Hilt length: 4.75 inches.

Condition report:

The steel blade exhibits significant oxidation, a dark patina, and surface pitting consistent with age and storage. The edges show signs of historical use-wear. The wooden handle has numerous surface scratches, nicks, and a patch of light-colored residue or adhesive near the pommel. The metal ferrule shows surface darkening and oxidation. The scabbard wood is aged with visible grain wear and minor losses at the throat and tip, with the two halves showing slight separation in some areas.
