Description

A mixed media cast paper artwork by Canadian-born artist Padi Mayhew titled Home. This contemporary folk-inspired piece is created on heavy, textured handmade paper made from a pulp of abaca banana stock, flax, ragweed, and mulberry fibers. The composition features a central vertical stem with thirteen three-dimensional stylized birds in various colors including yellow, blue, purple, red, and green. The birds are embellished with hand-prepared pigments and pearlescent accents. Small green leaves and dragonflies are scattered throughout the branch. The lower portion of the artwork contains calligraphic text that reads Be it ever so humble / There’s no place / like home, set between a decorative blue and yellow horizontal border. The artwork is signed Padi Mayhew in pencil at the lower right and titled Home in pencil at the lower left. It is presented in a cream-colored mat within a dark wood frame featuring a burl-patterned finish. The verso retains a detailed artist biography and technical description label outlining the artist’s background as a graduate of Bishop’s University and her papermaking process.
Frame: 27 x 14 inches.
