Description

This contemporary mixed media fiber artwork, titled Home, is created by Canadian-born artist Padi Mayhew. The piece is constructed using a variety of hand-prepared natural fibers, including Abaca Banana stock, Flax, Ragweed, and Mulberry Tree pulps. These materials are layered to create a three-dimensional composition depicting a stylized orange cottage on a patterned lavender hill, surrounded by bare trees and a single green conifer. The central scene is framed by decorative green and red patterned paper borders. The work is signed P Mayhew in ink on the lower right of the mat and titled Home on the lower left. It is housed in an off-white mat within a square dark wood frame featuring a glossy tortoiseshell-patterned finish. The reverse of the frame bears a detailed printed label titled ABOUT THE ARTIST, which provides a biography of Mayhew and technical information regarding her hand-pigmented paper-making process.

8.5 x 8.5 inches.

Condition report:

The artwork is in excellent condition, with no visible fading, fiber loss, or structural issues. The handmade paper elements remain vibrant and well-adhered. The frame is structurally sound, showing only very minor, negligible surface scuffs consistent with light handling.
