Lot 215:
Description
This oil painting on canvas panel is signed E. Bennett and dated 1923 in the lower right corner. The representational work depicts a rural landscape centered on a red mill or barn building positioned adjacent to a small dam or weir. The composition features lush green foliage, trees, and another smaller structure in the background, executed with visible, impasto brushwork. The painting is housed in its original flat-profile natural wood frame. The verso of the artwork identifies the support as a Fredrix Red Lion canvas panel, featuring a central red stamp and a manufacturer’s label from the E.H. and A.C. Friedrichs Co. of New York. A yellow metal ruler is included in the documentation for scale.
Visible artwork: 12 x 9 inches
Overall frame: 13.5 x 10.5 inches.
Condition report:
The painting exhibits a light layer of accumulated surface dirt and a slightly yellowed varnish consistent with its age. There is no significant craquelure or paint loss visible. The wooden frame shows minor scuffs and age-related wear. The brown paper dust cover on the reverse is torn and largely missing, exposing the metal glazing points and the manufacturer\'s label.
