Description
This is a working vintage American mantel clock features a tambour-style wooden case with a mahogany-colored finish. The design is characterized by a rounded top and curved sides, a common aesthetic for mid-20th-century horology. The circular silvered metal dial is housed behind a convex glass lens and a hinged brass-toned bezel. The dial displays black Arabic numerals and features decorative filigree hour and minute hands. Two winding arbors are positioned on the face at the 4 and 8 o’clock marks, and the bottom of the dial is printed with the mark MADE IN U.S.A. The back of the clock contains a hinged wooden access door. Affixed to the interior of this door is an original paper label titled GUARANTEE and DIRECTIONS, which references the No. 4300, 4500, and 4600 Series 8-Day Pendulum Strike Movements in Tambour Cases. The label specifically mentions Plymouth clocks and features the handwritten name SETH THOMAS in script at the top. The internal mechanical brass movement is stamped with the numbers 4506 and 4642 on the plates.Height: 8.75 inchesWidth: 11.5 inchesDepth: 6 inches.
Condition report:
The wooden case shows minor surface abrasions, small nicks, and general wear consistent with age and household use. The silvered dial exhibits some oxidation and light wear to the finish. The brass bezel shows a light patina. The mechanical movement appears to be intact with the pendulum present, but the working order has not been verified. No winding key is included with the lot. The item is sold as-is.
