Description

An antique carriage or coach lantern constructed from sheet brass with cast brass components. The lamp features a rectangular central housing with a hinged side door providing access to the interior. The front is fitted with a large, circular clear glass lens set within a deep, flared brass bezel, while a small circular red glass aperture is located on the rear panel. The top is surmounted by a conical ventilation chimney with decorative pierced cutouts and a cast finial. The lamp terminates in a long, tapered cylindrical base and is currently fitted with a contemporary L-shaped brass wall-mounting bracket. Included with the lamp are its internal components consisting of a removable brass fuel reservoir and a burner assembly with an adjustable wick knob and a white ceramic wick guide.

Overall Length: 14.5 inches.

Condition report:

The lamp exhibits a natural aged patina across the brass surfaces with scattered instances of oxidation and green verdigris, particularly concentrated around the seams and ventilation apertures. There are several minor indentations and surface scratches to the sheet metal body consistent with age and previous use. The glass components appear to be intact and free of significant cracks or chips. The internal burner mechanism is present and the adjustment knob is movable, though the unit has not been tested for functionality.
