Description

This mid-century dressing gown set, likely produced in Japan for the Western export market circa 1940s to 1950s, consists of a full-length robe, a matching sash, a fabric-covered presentation box, and several hair accessories. The robe is constructed from pink silk or high-quality rayon damask featuring a woven floral pattern. It is designed with a wrap-front closure and a large, rounded shawl collar in contrasting mint green floral damask. This contrasting fabric is repeated on the deep turn-back cuffs and the flaps of two hip patch pockets. Each pocket flap is secured with a small white button. The matching sash is made of the same pink damask material. The presentation box is covered in a coordinating pink floral damask fabric. The set includes three hair picks: one of dark-stained wood and two of cream-colored material resembling celluloid, featuring hand-painted floral motifs and red-tipped finials. No manufacturer labels or country-of-origin marks are visible on the garment, box, or accessories.

Condition report:

The dressing gown is in good structural condition but exhibits heavy creasing and prominent fold lines throughout from long-term storage within the box. The presentation box shows visible wear, including scuffing to the edges, rubbing at the corners, and several areas of yellowed adhesive tape residue on the lid. The hair picks appear intact with minor surface wear.
