Description
A German decorative relief plaque or shallow dish crafted from stamped brass. The oval-shaped piece features a high-relief naturalistic scene depicting a group of three deer, consisting of two adults and a fawn, standing in a forest setting beneath the overhanging branches of a leafy tree. The bottom edge is finished with an ornamental scrolled, shell-like motif. The reverse of the plaque shows the negative impression of the front design, which is characteristic of the stamped metal manufacturing process. The reverse is marked with a raised rectangular cartouche containing the word GESCHÜTZT, a German term indicating a legally protected or copyrighted design. Below this cartouche is a smaller, separate maker mark in the shape of a bell. The piece is equipped with an integral hanging loop at the top for wall mounting.
Condition report:
The plaque is in good antique condition, presenting a bright golden-yellow patina. Minor signs of age and wear are visible, including small oxidation spots on the reverse and a few instances of green verdigris, most notably on the head of one of the deer. The integral hanging loop remains intact and functional.
