Description
A group of Shaker-style oval bentwood boxes by Donald H. Esbenshade of Highspire, Pennsylvania. The collection features five boxes of varying sizes, each constructed using traditional bentwood techniques with swallowtail finger joints secured by copper tacks. The finishes include natural wood, yellow paint, forest green paint, and deep reddish-brown paint. The undersides of multiple boxes bear a stamped rectangular mark with the initials dhe above the date 1989. One box retains a small triangular yellow sticker labeled HOMERS 28 495. The group includes a business card for the maker, Donald H. Esbenshade. Based on the provided scale, the dimensions are as follows:
Largest box (reddish-brown): approximately 11 inches long by 4.25 inches high
Smallest box (green): approximately 4.5 inches long by 1.25 inches high.
Condition report:
The boxes are in good condition with light surface wear, minor scuffs, and small scratches consistent with age and handling. The joints and lids remain secure.
