Lot 196:
Description
This rectangular wall mirror is designed in the 18th-century Chippendale style, featuring a dark-toned wood frame with a prominent burl grain, likely walnut. The frame is topped with a scrolled cresting centered by a carved giltwood shell motif and flanked by scrolled foliate terminals. A thin gilt bead molding follows the interior sight edge, conforming to the arched and shaped upper edge of the mirror plate. The piece is a mid-to-late 20th-century Colonial Revival reproduction. While no labels are visible, the design and construction are highly consistent with La Barge model number 1609, which was manufactured in Italy. The mirror glass provides a clear reflection.
Condition report:
The mirror and frame are in very good vintage condition. The burl wood veneer and gilt accents are well-preserved with only minimal signs of wear consistent with age and residential use. The mirror plate is clear and free of foxing, desilvering, or significant scratches.
