Description
A contemporary tramp art carved wood box with a whimsical figural lid, created by Pennsylvania artist Timothy W. Strawser. The box is square in form and supported by four turned ball feet. Each side and the lid are densely decorated with traditional chip-carved pyramid layers, characteristic of the tramp art style. The four sides feature central raised sunburst medallions. The removable lid is topped with a hand-carved and painted folk art figure of a standing pig. The pig is depicted on its hind legs, holding a yellow ear of corn with a green husk in its mouth. The figure is finished in a reddish-brown stain with cream-colored hooves and snout, and features a delicate, curly tail. The box is constructed of wood and finished with a warm amber-colored stain. The base of the box bears the artist’s handwritten signature, Timothy W. Strawser 2004. An original artist business card from Wernersville, PA is included.

Condition report:
The item is in excellent condition. There are no visible chips, cracks, or losses to the delicate chip-carved edges. The painted pig figure is intact, including its thin curly tail. No repairs are evident.
