Description
This original work by R. M. Wentz is executed in watercolor and gouache on paper, showcasing a Naive or American Folk Art aesthetic. The composition features a central cottage with a textured yellow-shingled gable, two red brick chimneys, and a green roof. A winding yellow path leads through a manicured green lawn dotted with various flower beds toward a low stone wall and a white picket gate. Mature trees and shrubs in varying shades of green and brown frame the house against a pale sky. The painting is signed R. M. WENTZ in the lower right corner. It is presented in an ornate gilt-wood frame with foliate relief molding and a cream-colored mat.

Condition report:
The paper exhibits significant mat burn and acid toning along the perimeter of the mat opening. Visible foxing and staining are present in the upper sky region. The gilt-wood frame shows minor surface wear and small losses to the gilding consistent with age. The verso reveals a heavily deteriorated, brittle brown backing paper with extensive water staining, tears, and a strip of blue painter\'s tape. The nails securing the artwork are rusted.
